May is a month that reminds us of the values upon which our democracy and society are built. As we commemorated Workers’ Month, we paid tribute to the millions of workers whose dedication continues to drive economic growth, strengthen communities and sustain public services. Their contribution remains central to the development of Mogale City and South Africa as a whole.
This month also saw residents gather at Maropeng Visitor Centre to celebrate Africa Day, a significant occasion that affirms our shared African identity, heritage and aspirations. As the home of the Cradle of Humankind, Mogale City occupies a unique place in Africa’s story and remains committed to leveraging our cultural and historical assets to promote tourism, investment and inclusive development.
This edition of Dikgang tsa Mogale highlights a municipality making tangible progress. A notable milestone is the successful rehabilitation of the Percy Stewart Wastewater Treatment Works. Once facing severe operational challenges, the facility is now fully operational and serving residents effectively. This achievement demonstrates our commitment to restoring critical infrastructure, improving environmental sustainability and delivering reliable services to our communities.
We also remind qualifying residents that applications for Pensioner Rebates are now open. We encourage eligible senior citizens to apply and access the support available to them. At the same time, residents are urged to remain vigilant against fraudulent job scams. No legitimate municipal employment opportunity requires payment, and all vacancies are communicated through official channels.
As we look ahead, we encourage young people, particularly first-time voters, to register to vote. The future of our democracy depends on the active participation of every generation. Online voter registration remains open through the Electoral Commission of South Africa, while 20th and 21st 2026 June have been designated as Voter Registration Weekend. We call upon our youth to honour the sacrifices that secured our freedom by becoming active participants in shaping South Africa’s future.
Together, we continue building a capable, developmental and responsive municipality that works for all.
