The Smart Metering Project is an initiative to replace existing prepaid electricity meters with advanced smart prepaid meters to help residents track energy consumption efficiently, improving energy management and cost savings. This project excludes postpaid electricity meters. |
What are smart meters, and how do they work? | Smart meters are digital devices that accurately measure and monitor electricity usage. They help residents manage energy usage better. |
When will the audit of smart meters begin? | Audits began on 14 July 2025 with teams working systematically through neighborhoods for a smooth rollout. Wards and dates will be communicated via social media. |
Who will be auditing my meter? | Authourised auditors from Mogale City Local Municipality will perform the audit. |
Will I be charged for the audit? | No, residents will not be charged for the audit. This initiative is funded by the National Government to improve municipal infrastructure. |
Do I need to be home during the Audit? | Yes, someone needs to be home to grant access to the existing meter. If not, please follow the instruction provided by the auditor to arrange a suitable time. |
How will I know that the installer is an official representative? | Auditors will carry municipal ID badges and wear identifiable uniforms. They will also carry an authourisation letter from the municipality. |
