As previously communicated on 9 December 2025, Water Services reminds residents and businesses of the scheduled Rand Water maintenance on the Eikenhof supply system taking place from 6 to 7 January 2026.
The maintenance work includes the replacement of isolation valves and bulk meter on the F18, F45, F39, F28 and F15 pipelines. To allow this work to be completed safely, water supply will be suspended for an estimated 52 hours. The following areas will be affected: Leratong Hospital, Azaadville, Rietvallei 2 & 3, Swanneville, Kagiso Ext 12 & 13, Greater Kagiso and Chief Mogale.
Contingency measure in place
To reduce the impact of the interruption, Water Services has activated a contingency plan to manage water availability before, during and after the maintenance period.
1. Managed water storage
In consultation with Rand Water, reservoir levels will be maximised ahead of the shutdown through increased bulk supply. Reservoir outlets will be throttled to build storage capacity by reducing water outflow by 50% and pumping water mainly during the day. This measure aims to extend water availability for as long as possible. However, residents may experience low water pressure, particularly during peak demand and hot weather conditions. Residents are therefore advised to store sufficient water in advance as a precaution.
2. Water tanker provision
While the shutdown period is limited, previous maintenance operations have shown increased demand for water tankers. Additional tankers will be on standby and deployed where necessary. Tanker distribution points will be communicated through ward councillors and official municipal communication platforms.
3. Monitoring and communication
Water levels will be closely monitored throughout the maintenance period. Regular updates will be shared via the municipal website, official social media platforms and through ongoing engagement with ward councillors.
Water Services apologises for the inconvenience and thanks residents and businesses in advance for their cooperation.
