In line with guidance from the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport, Mogale City Public Safety has intensified compliance monitoring of scholar transport operators to ensure the safety of children and adherence to applicable laws.

Scholar transport operators are reminded that operating legally and safely is non-negotiable. Drivers are required to operate with a valid licence which must be applied for the with the following documents: 

  • Copy of the service contract (for contracted services)
  • Certified copy of ID and a valid driving licence with PrDP
  • Valid SAPS clearance certificate
  • Proof that the vehicle is roadworthy and registered
  • Original SARS tax compliance status
  • Proof of residential address
  • Recommendation letter from a school bearing an original signature and official school stamp
  • List of learners with parent/guardian contact details
  • Proof of insurance, including insurance indemnity cover
  • Route description
  • Where CK or business is used, certified copies of directors must be submitted and all documentation must reflect the CK/business details (including SARS records)

Applications must be submitted in person at the West Rand TOLAB offices located at the corners of Kagiso and Mmusi Streets. The cost for each application is R600.

The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport urges parents, guardians, and community members to report reckless driving or unsafe scholar transport vehicles to the Gauteng Traffic Inspectorate on 0800 428 8364.
