Rand Water’s Zuikerbosch Water Treatment Plant experienced a power failure in Engine Room 4 on Tuesday, 27 January 2026, resulting in the temporary shutdown of operations.
The plant supplies water to the Eikenhof system, which in turn provides water to parts of Mogale City. As a result of the power failure, pumping capacity to the Eikenhof Booster Station has been reduced to 92%, which may affect water supply to parts of Mogale City, leading to potential temporary interruptions and/or low water pressure in affected areas.
While the anticipated disruption period is expected to be limited, should critical shortages occur, water tankers will be deployed. Details regarding tanker distribution points will be communicated to residents through Ward Councillors and official municipal communication platforms.
The municipality remains in constant communication with Rand Water regarding the restoration process. We have been advised that technical teams and specialists are working around the clock to fully restore pumping capacity and stabilise water supply.
Further updates will be shared via the official municipal website, social media platforms, local media, and through ongoing engagement with Ward Councillors.
On behalf of Rand Water, the municipality apologises for any inconvenience this water supply interruption may cause to residents, customers, and businesses within the city.
