OFFICIAL OPENING OF LERATONG CITY MARKS MAJOR MILESTONE IN R5 BILLION SMART CITY DEVELOPMENT
Members of the media are invited to attend the official opening of Leratong City, marking a major milestone in the R5 billion Leratong Smart City Development in Kagiso, Mogale City. The mall opening will be attended by Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi, Gauteng MEC for Human Settlements Tasneem Motara, and hosted by the Executive Mayor of Mogale City and Members of the Mayoral Committee.
The 42 000 m² shopping centre, which features 89 retail tenants, is the first major component of the broader mixed-use development, which will ultimately include housing, healthcare, commercial facilities and government services. The development has already made a significant contribution to the local economy, creating approximately 1 096 employment opportunities for local residents and supporting 44 local SMMEs and companies during the construction phase. Once fully developed, the project is expected to create approximately 2 500 employment opportunities and attract further investment to the area.
The broader development is being delivered through a partnership between the Gauteng Provincial Government, Mogale City Local Municipality, Trendville Investments and McCormick Property Development. Plans include approximately 15 000 housing units, a commercial precinct, government support services and a private hospital. The Leratong Smart City Development is set to become an important economic and community hub, creating jobs, attracting investment and bringing greater access to retail, housing, healthcare and essential services closer to surrounding communities.
The official opening will provide an opportunity to showcase the progress achieved to date, highlight the economic impact of the development and outline the long-term vision for one of the most significant development initiatives underway in Mogale City.
