Mogale City is intensifying the implementation of its Credit Control and Debt Collection Policy through the ongoing “Ra Tima” campaign, as part of a decisive effort to recover over R4 billion owed by defaulting residents and businesses. Currently, households account for approximately R3 billion, while businesses owe around R863 million of the total outstanding debt.
This figure has increased significantly from over R3 billion recorded last year, emphasising the urgent need for stricter enforcement measures. In response, the municipality has escalated its credit control actions, including the rollout of widespread service disconnections, to restore a culture of payment and safeguard its ability to deliver essential services sustainably. Credit control teams will be deployed across various areas within the city to disconnect services where payments remain unpaid.
While these measures are necessary, the municipality emphasises that defaulting customers are afforded the opportunity to enter binding payment arrangements. However, services will only be restored once a required payment has been made and/or a formal arrangement has been concluded to settle the outstanding balance over an agreed period.
Residents and businesses with accounts in arrears for more than 60 days are therefore urged to visit municipal offices without delay to make the necessary payment arrangements and avoid disconnection. Failure to do so will result in service disconnection without further notice.
Mogale City calls on all residents and businesses to honour their financial obligations, as consistent payment is essential to maintaining reliable service delivery and supporting the continued development of our communities.
