Mogale City Local Municipality joined hands with SALGA, the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) and the Department of Health to honour the life and legacy of Nelson Mandela by dedicating 67 minutes to community service at Mandisa Shiceka School of Specialisation in Kagiso this morning.
As part of the Mandela Day initiative, participants installed classroom doors, hinges and door locks, and painted parts of the school to help improve the learning environment for learners.
Mandisa Shiceka School of Specialisation is a top-performing public secondary school that specialises in Mathematics, Science and Information and Communication Technology (ICT), with a particular focus on mining and manufacturing. The school forms part of the Gauteng Department of Education’s Schools of Specialisation Programme, which equips learners with industry-relevant skills aligned to key economic sectors.
During the event, Executive Mayor, Lucky Sele, encouraged qualifying young people to register to vote and to participate in the municipality’s recently launched Bloomberg Philanthropies Youth Climate Action Fund, which provides funding and support for youth-led climate initiatives.
The event concluded on a high note with Mogale City Speaker, Doreen Davids, handing over dignity packs, embodying the spirit of Nelson Mandela and honouring the values of compassion, service and human dignity that he championed.
