65% of the municipal water supplied is not generating revenue due to authorised consumption that is not being billed. This is largely attributed to challenges associated with prepaid water meters, including:

  • A short lifespan and high maintenance requirements
  • A high number of non-functional prepaid meters, which has resulted in some properties being directly connected to ensure access to water, leading to revenue losses
  • Limited municipal budget to repair or replace faulty prepaid meters

To address these challenges and improve revenue collection, the municipality will be to converting all Blue Tag and Silver Tag prepaid water meters to postpaid water meters.

All residents currently using Blue Tag and Silver Tag prepaid water meters are required to visit the municipality’s offices to facilitate the conversion of their meters from prepaid to postpaid.

Customers are requested to bring the following documents:

  • A valid South African ID or passport
  • Proof of property ownership or occupancy
  • Municipal account number (if available)

Please note that failure to comply with this notice may result in service disruptions or billing irregularities.
