Mogale City wishes to remind ratepayers that the municipality is no longer banking with Standard Bank and has transitioned to ABSA, effective 1 August 2026.
This change is in line with the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA) and the Municipal Supply Chain Management Regulations, which require municipalities to renew the tender for primary banking services every five years.
Customers who make payments via Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) should note that Mogale City Local Municipality is listed as a public beneficiary on the internet banking platforms of all major banks. As a result, no action is required from customers to update banking details or beneficiary information when making payments.
ABSA has communicated the municipality’s new banking details to all South African banks, which will seamlessly update their systems from the municipality’s previous Standard Bank account to the new ABSA account.
To make an EFT payment, customers do not require the municipality’s account number. Simply search for “Mogale City Local Municipality Direct Deposit Account (DDA)” under the public beneficiaries listed on your bank’s internet banking platform. Customers are reminded to always use their municipal account number as the payment reference to ensure accurate allocation of payments.
Customers wishing to make a direct deposit at an ABSA branch should inform the teller that they would like to pay Mogale City Local Municipality DDA. No banking details will be required. However, customers must provide their municipal account number as a reference to enable the identification and allocation of the payment. Should your bank require a 15-digit reference, add zeros to the end of your municipal account number until a total of 15 digits is reached.
The municipality is aware that some ratepayers may have made payments into the previous Standard Bank account since the beginning of August. To ensure that customers are not inconvenienced, arrangements have been made with Standard Bank to transfer such payments to the municipality’s new ABSA account. In instances where a transfer cannot be processed, the funds will be refunded to the ratepayer’s account.
We thank residents and businesses for their cooperation during this transition.
