Mogale City Local Municipality has once again achieved an unqualified audit opinion for the 2024/2025 financial year, marking the second consecutive year of positive audit outcomes and reflecting continued progress in financial governance and accountability.

The Auditor-General of South Africa has confirmed that the municipality’s financial statements present fairly, in all material respects, its financial position, performance, and cash flows for the year ended 30 June 2025. The statements were prepared in accordance with the South African Standards of Generally Recognised Accounting Practice (GRAP) and the requirements of the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA), Act 56 of 2003.

This achievement demonstrates strengthened financial management practices and an improved internal control environment. Although certain areas of non-compliance were identified, Mogale City recorded notable improvement, progressing from compliance in five out of nine areas in the previous year to seven out of nine areas in the current audit cycle.

In addition, key governance and operational areas including expenditure and asset management, contract and procurement management, human resource management, strategic planning and performance management, revenue management, and the utilisation of conditional grants, were assessed as being in a positive state. These areas received a “green” status, indicating that no material findings were raised during the audit period.

The remaining two areas requiring attention will be addressed through strengthened collaboration between political leadership and administration, ensuring that outstanding matters are resolved and that compliance is further enhanced.

This audit outcome reflects Mogale City’s growing potential to achieve an unqualified audit opinion with no material findings in the coming cycle. With continued commitment from all role-players, alignment to the Auditor-General’s Culture Shift 2030 strategy, and sustained efforts to improve performance, Mogale City is well positioned to progress towards a clean audit.
