In a landmark step to empower disadvantaged communities and expand access to information, Mogale City Executive Mayor Lucky Sele officially opened the first Modular Library in Rietvallei Extension 3, adding to similar facilities already established in other parts of the city.

The new library is designed for both adults and children, offering:

  • Free Wi-Fi
  • A wide collection of books for reading and study
  • Educational programmes for children, including storytelling and library orientation
  • A dedicated homework area providing learners with a safe, quiet study space
  • Computers, a photocopier, and a printer for research needs
  • 24-hour security to safeguard the facility

Speaking at the launch, Mayor Sele highlighted that the library’s impact depends on community use: “Every book borrowed, every page turned, and every story shared is a step toward building a community that is informed, empowered, and united.” He urged parents to bring their children and encouraged all residents to register as library members and make full use of the facility. The library will operate from 08h30 to 16h00 on weekdays.

Mogale City has a strong record of expanding access to libraries, with modular facilities already established in areas such as Kromdraai and Ithembalethu. The new Reitvallei Library marks another milestone in the city’s mission to promote literacy, lifelong learning, and bridge the information gap in under-resourced communities.
