
Mogale City Local Municipality has emerged as a standout performer at the 2023/24 South African Local Government Association (SALGA) Municipal Awards, securing five accolades that highlight its commitment to good governance and service delivery.
This distinguished event recognises Gauteng municipalities that demonstrate excellence in financial management, compliance, and the implementation of sound governance practices.
Executive Mayor Lucky Sele expressed pride in the achievements, reaffirming the municipality’s commitment to continuously refining its systems and controls. “We remain resolute in our efforts to run a tight ship guided by the Municipal Finance Management Act and other applicable legislation,” Sele remarked.
The municipality received awards in the following key categories:
- Implemented Action Plans to Address Prior Year Audit Findings (2023/24)
- Reduction of Unauthorised, Irregular, Fruitless and Wasteful Expenditure (UIFN) for the 2023/24 financial year
- First Runner-Up in Municipal Capital Grants Utilisation for Service Delivery, achieving 99.25% for the 2023/24 financial year
- Unqualified Audit Opinion with Notable Improvements and effective action plans (2023/24)
- Performance Achievement of over 80% for the 2023/24 year
While these recognitions affirm Mogale City’s dedication to accountability, transparency, and efficient service delivery, it is also setting a commendable benchmark for municipalities across Gauteng.
The city’s supporting teams at both political and administrative levels led by Cllr Sele and Municipal Manager Makhosana Msezana respectively, were also recognised for championing a vision of excellence in local governance.
The accolades place Mogale City among a select group of municipalities poised to deliver lasting impact and an improved quality of life for their constituencies.
