With a bold vision for the future, Mogale City Executive Mayor Lucky Sele addressed a full house at Centenary Hall yesterday, sharing progress milestones and setting the tone for the city’s next chapter during his maiden State of the City Address.

Opening his speech with a clear declaration of intent, Mayor Sele stated, “We are steering the city towards restoration, regeneration, and resilience. What was once a stagnant train is now a moving train.”

Among the notable achievements highlighted was the progress made at the Percy Steward Wastewater Treatment Works, a project that has been under intense public scrutiny. The facility’s rehabilitation now stands at 60% completion, with key interventions including the restoration of electrical systems, improvements in sludge handling, and the unblocking of pipelines. These actions are critical to preventing the discharge of raw sewage into residential areas and natural water sources.

“These measures demonstrate our commitment to environmental protection and to achieving biological efficiency in line with Water Use Licences,” Sele said.

He also commended the Water and Sanitation Division for ensuring the city now fully complies with SANS 241 national standards across all water distribution points, an achievement that guarantees the delivery of safe, high-quality drinking water to residents.
