Mogale City hereby informs residents and businesses that the Luipaardsvlei Landfill Site will be temporarily closed to the public with immediate effect until further notice.
As per the Gauteng Department of Environment Directive, Mogale City will embark on critical work to rehabilitate existing waste cells to extend the landfill’s capacity and accommodate an additional waste cell as well as implementing Phase 5 upgrade works, which include the construction of a leachate pond, pollution control dam, and silt trap, to further enhance environmental compliance and improve waste management operations at the site.
During this period, residents and businesses are advised to make use of alternative landfill sites within our neighbouring municipalities.
Waste Management further reminds the public that illegal dumping is strictly prohibited, as it poses serious health risks and causes harm to the environment, and urges residents to dispose of waste responsibly.
