Mogale City officially launched the Leratong Nodal Development, a flagship spatial transformation project positioning the municipality as a leader in integrated, people-centred urban development. The launch was attended by Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi and MEC for Human Settlement Tasneem Motara, demonstrating strong intergovernmental collaboration and support.
The Leratong Node, a mixed-use precinct development spearheaded by Mogale City and Trendville Investments, aims to address historic spatial inequalities and create sustainable economic opportunities for Kagiso and Mogale City communities.
Strategically located around Leratong Hospital and the Randfontein Road corridor, the development will deliver over 15,000 mixed-income housing units, a 35,000m² regional shopping centre opening in November 2026, upgraded infrastructure, enhanced public amenities, and a new localised economy benefiting residents.
The node embodies Mogale City’s spatial vision rooted in equity, redress, and inclusive growth, positioning the municipality as an urban city centre. Local government plays a proactive role in driving the developmental agenda with provincial support, ensuring the creation of liveable communities where residents have access to transport, healthcare, jobs, and social connections.
Beyond infrastructure delivery, the project is set to generate hundreds of job opportunities, support SMME development, and stimulate local procurement and construction industry participation. It aligns with broader national efforts to advance spatial transformation and sustainable economic growth, with Mogale City recognized among the top 10 municipalities championing innovative and inclusive development at the Infrastructure South Africa Thought Leadership Dialogue & Summit.
