In a bid to accelerate economic growth and strengthen collaboration with key industries, Executive Mayor Cllr Lucky Sele, together with MMC for Local Economic Development Cllr Lwando Resha, led the 2025/26 Integrated Development Plan (IDP) feedback session with stakeholders from the Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMME), tourism, and agricultural sectors, this morning at Mogale’s Mayoral Chambers.

These engagements form part of Mogale’s ongoing service delivery roadshows aimed at reporting on progress made since the approval of the 2025/26 IDP and Budget.

Key progress updates include:

  • Leratong Smart City: Construction of the mall is underway, with the housing development phase set to begin soon
  • Swanneville Agri-Park: Funding has been secured for the establishment of an Agri-Park to serve as a hub for agricultural innovation, training, and market access.
  • Swanneville Industrial Park: Phase 1 of the development is advancing, with water and sewer infrastructure completed and work on the electricity network in progress. Plans for a new mall within the precinct are also moving forward, with an advertisement for prospective developers expected soon.

Within the mining sector, it was reported that partnerships with Mogale Tailing and Harmony Gold are being strengthened to increase opportunities for local SMMEs and ensure that mining companies uphold their social responsibility commitments by investing in community empowerment initiatives.

The municipality is also working with the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy to explore the formalisation of small-scale mining to curb illegal operations (Zama Zamas), while creating opportunities for regulated participation by local entrepreneurs.

In the tourism and urban renewal space, a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) opportunity has been advertised for the Krugersdorp Game Reserve, inviting credible investors to redevelop, operate, fund and manage the facility.

As part of the CBD Precinct Revitalisation Plan, a proposed by-law offering temporary rates and levies relief for owners of dilapidated buildings is under review to encourage reinvestment and refurbishment in the inner city.

To support young people and entrepreneurs, the municipality reaffirmed its commitment to youth empowerment through internships, learnerships, and work-integrated learning programmes. It will also establish business forums and incubate SMMEs for three years under the Executive Mayor’s Office, providing mentorship and access to business opportunities.

Through these initiatives, Mogale reaffirms its dedication to driving inclusive economic growth, empowering local enterprises and youth, and building a sustainable, investment-ready city.
