Madiba taught us that the true measure of a life is the difference we make in the lives of others. Guided by his values of humility, service, and unity, Executive Mayor Lucky Sele led by example, turning Mandela Day into a city-wide effort focused on selfless acts of service and giving.
Activities began at Munsieville Primary School, where excited learners received brand-new school shoes. Cllr Sele also joined staff and learners in planting vegetables in the school’s food garden.
At Dr Yusuf Dadoo Hospital, the Mayor joined health workers for a large-scale clean-up operation, restoring sparkle to this public health space. Inspired by the occasion, hospital staff donated food parcels to a local NGO, demonstrating the true spirit of the day.
The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture hosted an afternoon of youth sport and development at Magaliesburg Secondary School. Mayor Sele, together with MMCs Kholeka Mandyu and Victor Molefe, joined Deputy Minister of Sport Pule Mabe in cheering on young people competing in various sporting activities.
The final stop was the Chamdor Thusong Service Centre, where Mayor Sele extended a helping hand to residents in need, reminding us all that service is at the heart of leadership.
Mandela Day calls on all South Africans to give 67 minutes of their time in honour of the 67 years Nelson Mandela dedicated to fighting for social justice. It is a day when ordinary acts of service create extraordinary impact, and this year, Mogale City embraced the call to serve, embodying it in true Madiba style.
