Energy Services has extended the rollout of smart prepaid electricity meters to include customers currently using postpaid meters. The conversion comes at no cost to the consumer, but the following conditions apply:

  1. Your municipal account/s must not be in arrears
  2. If account/s in arrears, a formal payment arrangement must be made with Credit Control before submitting a conversion application
  3. For accounts with outstanding balances, 30% of the value of each prepaid voucher will automatically be deducted and credited toward your arrears. This deduction will continue until the outstanding balance is fully settled and is in addition to any existing payment arrangement with Credit Control
  4. A deduction rate agreement confirming this arrangement must be signed by the customer

Assessment and site verification

Once an application meeting the above conditions is received, an on-site assessment will be conducted to confirm that:

  • The meter infrastructure is located outside the property boundary, and
  • It is housed in a locked kiosk for security and accessibility

Once your application is approved, an appointment for the conversion will be scheduled.
