Mogale City’s Social Development Division hosted the 2025 Older Persons Month Celebration on Wednesday, 8 October 2025 at Silverstar Casino, an event held in the true spirit of positive ageing. The celebration aimed to create an environment where senior citizens can embrace ageing with purpose, joy and positive outlook.
Held under the theme “Older Persons Driving Local and Global Action: Our Aspirations, Our Well-Being and Our Rights,” the event brought together over 300 senior citizens from various service centres across the city.
The programme was supported by government departments, the private sector, and community stakeholders, who joined forces to deliver activities that inspired seniors to relive fond memories and celebrate life. Highlights of the day included a beauty pageant and a series of talent performances, providing older persons the chance to express themselves and showcase their creativity.
The event was sponsored and hosted by Silverstar Casino through its Corporate Social Investment programme, which provided the venue, sound equipment, and refreshments.
Through partnerships and community networks, Social Development continues to support 16 service centres and four old age homes that offer prevention, promotion, and home-based care programmes. The annual Older Persons Month Celebration reaffirms the city’s commitment to promoting dignity, inclusion, and active ageing thus ensuring that older persons remain recognised and valued for their lifelong contributions.
