Owing to extreme hot weather conditions, alarmingly high levels of water consumption, consumers are placing increasing pressure on water supply across Gauteng.

Rand Water has raised alarm that if consumption levels do not stabilise immediately, water supply across the province will be affected. Current demand has exceeded available supply, placing severe strain on the broader Rand Water network. The system is being forced to operate under sustained pressure, stretching infrastructure capacity and increasing the risk of widespread supply interruptions.

As a result, parts of the province have already experienced water supply interruptions. This has compelled Rand Water to urgently engage all municipalities to implement water restrictions and demand-reduction measures plus reducing bulk supply to affected municipalities to stabilise the system and restore supply to impacted areas.

As all municipalities in the province are affected, Mogale City urgently calls on all residents and businesses to act now by using water sparingly and restricting consumption to essential use only. This immediate action is critical to allow for the retention of water in reservoirs and to support the stabilisation of the provincial water supply network.

The municipality thanks residents and businesses for responding to this urgent call as we work alongside Rand Water to collectively aid in restoring and stabilising water supply across the province.
