A new chapter has begun for 70 families in Muldersdrift after they received keys to their news homes at the Dr Motlana Housing Project this morning.
Gauteng MEC for Human Settlements, Tasneem Motara, together with Mogale City Executive Mayor, Lucky Sele, officially handed over 70 completed two-bedroom houses to beneficiaries who have waited years for secure and dignified housing.
Funded by the Gauteng Department of Human Settlements, the Dr Motlana Housing Project is expected to deliver 253 houses once completed. Bulk infrastructure for all 253 houses has already been completed, including a wastewater treatment plant to residents with proper sanitation.
For many beneficiaries, the handover is about more than receiving a house. Most have never owned a home, while others were evicted from surrounding farms and moved between informal settlements in search of somewhere to live.
The beneficiaries were identified from Rietvallei, Video Informal Settlement, Chesampama Informal Settlement, Driefontein/Swaartkop and Ward 23 plots.
For families who have endured years of uncertainty, the handover marks an important step towards greater stability and improved living conditions. It also represents progress in the provision of dignified housing to communities in Muldersdrift.
Addressing the beneficiaries, MEC Motara urged them to move into their new homes immediately and reminded them not to sell or rent out their houses.
