Mogale City has been invited to participate in the 7th Annual Gauteng Environment Research Symposium, taking place from 16 – 17 September 2025. Hosted by the Gauteng Department of Environment in partnership with the University of Johannesburg’s Process, Energy and Environmental Technology Station (PEETS), the symposium will bring together government, academia, researchers and stakeholders to advance sustainable environmental practices.
This year’s theme, “Innovating Environmental Governance and Research for a Resilient, Sustainable and Inclusive Future”, speaks directly to the environmental challenges facing Gauteng – from rapid urbanisation and industrialisation to the pressing impacts of climate change.
For Mogale City, the invitation reflects recognition of its growing leadership in sustainability initiatives, which include:
- Seeking resources and partners to pilot sustainability projects
- Environmental empowerment
- Urban greening
By participating in this platform, the municipality not only shares its experiences but also contributes to provincial and global sustainability goals, ensuring that local innovation informs broader strategies for a resilient future.
The symposium will feature keynote addresses, plenary sessions and collaborative dialogues aimed at generating actionable recommendations for policymakers. Through this participation, Mogale City continues to position itself as a proactive partner in shaping a sustainable Gauteng.
