R5 billion Leratong Smart City Development is placing local businesses at the heart of its growth strategy, with SMMEs ready to benefit from wide-ranging procurement and development opportunities.

This commitment to inclusive economic participation was reaffirmed during a well-attended stakeholder engagement session held yesterday at the Chief Mogale Community Hall in Kagiso.

Hosted by the city’s Economic Development Services in partnership with the Departments of Human Settlement and Real Estate, the session brought together entrepreneurs and SMMEs keen to contribute and benefit from the city’s bold smart city vision.

The project developer Trendville Pty Ltd shared key insights into the development’s structure, timelines, and delivery model. Deon Govender, Manager for Enterprise and Rural Development, emphasised the city’s commitment to preparing local businesses. “Our goal is to ensure that local businesses are not only informed but also fully equipped and compliant to seize the opportunities this project presents,” Govender said.

To ensure transparency and inclusive participation, an Internal Advisory Technical Team has been established to guide project rollout and fair access to opportunities.

Launched earlier this year by Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi and Mogale Mayor Lucky Sele, the Leratong Smart City is a flagship public-private partnership involving Mogale City, Trendville Pty Ltd, and the Gauteng Department of Human Settlement. The housing development will feature integrated residential, commercial, and retail zones, driving job creation, housing delivery and sustainable economic growth in the West Rand.
