After experiencing heavy rainfall in February 2025, which accounts for about 50% of the annual total normal rainfall, the city has been forced to roll out road and stormwater maintenance including pothole repairs and grading of gravel roads in rural area.

The ongoing rainfall and wet conditions have not only hindered planned maintenance and leading to reactive upkeep work but has also created backlog of work for the Roads and Transport division. The Division has assessed some of the affected areas and is implementing a rollout plan to address the pothole backlog during the next six weeks, focusing on Main Arterial roads, Collector roads and residential streets.

Maintenance of gravel roads have also commenced on 24 February 2025 and within the next six weeks extensive effort will be done to grade gravel roads.

Whilst appealing with our residents, road users and all affected parties to drive carefully on the affected roads, we thank you for your patience as the team endeavours to restore most of our roads within the targeted timeline.
