Mogale City’s Integrated Environmental Management Department and strategic partners recently unveiled the Matongoni Material Recovery Facility in Muldersdrift. The facility which is the largest waste recycling and processing centre in Gauteng, represents a transformative step in sustainable waste management and further positions the Mogale City as a leader in environmental innovation.
Developed through a public-private partnership, the centre will deliver innovative recycling solutions that promote environmental sustainability while boosting economic development in the city.
Speaking at the launch, Gauteng MEC for Environment Sheila Mary Peters highlighted the importance of collaboration in addressing environmental challenges. “Tackling environmental issues is not a task for government alone. Facilities like Matongoni demonstrate what is possible when stakeholders, including business and private entities, unite for a common purpose,” she said. Peters commended the partnership between Matongoni Group and Mogale City, expressing hope for similar initiatives in other municipalities.
The event, which was also attended by Fiber Circle, Ewasa officials and Mogale City political leadership was concluded with a ceremonial handover of a compliance file, affirming the facility’s adherence to ISO standards.
