As communicated earlier in the week, Rand Water’s scheduled 86-hour maintenance began yesterday, 13 December 2024. Unfortunately, a power outage caused by vandalism at the Krugersdorp Munic Substation a day before the planned shutdown prevented reservoirs from being adequately filled.
Current water supply challenges
- Water tankers were deployed to affected parts of the city and informal settlements this morning, however, Mogale City’s fill-up points have completely run dry.
- As a remedial measure, Rainbow Chicken and other private farmers have generously offered their boreholes to the municipality. However, 24-hour water quality tests are being conducted to ensure the water is safe for drinking before it is distributed to residents.
- Additionally, Rand Water has made a draw-off point available approximately an hour’s drive from Mogale City. Due to the distance, tanker deployments will be delayed.
- Once tankers have refilled, they will be dispatched to affected areas based on requests from Ward Councillors. Affected areas are requested to contact their ward councillor for tanker water locations.
We urge residents to exercise patience and understanding as the municipality strives to deliver water to all impacted areas under these challenging circumstances.
