Mogale City’s Lusaka Library is a proud recipient of the LIASA – Ndebe Public/Community Library of the Year 2024 award. The top accolade was presented at a Library and Information Association of South Africa (LIASA) annual conference held at Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre in Durban.
The award category was primarily for rural or peri-urban based libraries that in the last 24 months have made significant steps in championing the adoption of technological innovation including aspects of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) within the Library and Information Service community. The Lusaka-based library was nominated based on its outstanding usage of Xboxes by children who visit the library.
Lusaka Library was up against five other public libraries from various provinces in this tightly contested category including:
- Molepo Public Library: Limpopo
- Qalabotjha Public Library: Free State
- South African Library for the Blind: Eastern Cape
- Groenheuwel Public Library: Western Cape
- Mossel Bay Public Library: Western Cape
All five finalists were awarded certificates of participation while Lusaka Library received a certificate, trophy and price valued at R 20 000.00. sponsored by Ndende Technologies.
The municipality remains proud of Library Services’ continuous strides in various fields including collaborative work and partnerships with institutions such as UNISA, and the archiving of major historical events as the famous Krugersdorp Tunnel robbery amongst other.
