Mogale City acknowledges letter from the presidency
Mogale City acknowledged the letter from The Presidency, dated 10 October 2024 in which the President raised concerns regarding challenges at Percy Stewart Wastewater Treatment Plant (PSWWP) and sewage pumpstations in Munsieville and Brickvale.
The municipality has responded to the letter from the Presidency through the Office of the Premier on 15 October 2024. Mogale City also submitted a report and initiated contact with Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi and the office of the MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs. A meeting is also being scheduled to further discuss the matter.
While the municipality acknowledges historic PSWWTP and sewage pumpstations challenges and endeavors to keep affected parties abreast of developments at the plant and sites, the municipality would like to assure residents, local businesses and members of the media that the facilities are receiving the necessary attention to ensure that effluent discharged into our rivers is safe for people, animals and the environment.
Although the ongoing refurbishment work at PSWWTP and sewer pumpstations may delay due to budget constraints, critical material lead time and extent of the required work, concerted efforts are being made to fully restore our wastewater treatment infrastructure. The recently completed Munsieville Sewer Pumpstation amongst other, bears testimony to these efforts and progress.
