Mogale City is proud to be amongst municipalities that have partnered with The World of Impact Organization to combat Gender Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) in our communities through participation in the impactful “End GBVF- 100 Days” initiative.
Prouder even is the Social Development team to announce being recently recognised with a South African Local Government Association (Salga) excellence award for their outstanding contribution in the challenge.
Proudest also, as team was recognised as the top performer amongst Gauteng municipalities for its Nutritional Support Programme sponsored by Salga and Council for Debt collectors. This programme focuses on identifying youth and child-headed households in need of support, with municipal social workers playing a key role in selection of families that can benefit.
Through the collaborative efforts of social work interventions and partnerships with both internal and external stakeholders, significant strides were made. Among these intercessions identified children were returned to school, some placed under foster care of siblings, and others joined the municipality’s Expanded Public Works Programme to earn an income. In addition, some individuals got permanent employment and moved off the system, with one family even moved into an RDP house thanks to these interventions.
Whilst the municipality prides itself with this accolade, the team’s understanding that there’s no room for pride when coming to servicing the people of Mogale City, we soldier on.
