Mogale City Energy Services acknowledges concerns raised by Kagiso residents over Eskom’s implementation of loadshedding and wishes to provide clarity.
While Mogale City has a constitutional mandate to provide power to its communities, it does not have exclusive rights to supply the entire municipal jurisdiction area. Such power distribution rights and licenses are authorised by the National Energy Regulator of South Africa.
Residents are therefore urged to note that Mogale City is licensed to sell and distribute electricity to other parts of the city with the exclusion of KagisoSwaneville, Rietvallei, Muldersdrift, Tarlton, Hekpoort, Kromdraai and Magaliesburg. Power utility Eskom is licensed to distributes and sell electricity directly to these areas and is also responsible for load shedding or load reduction without requiring any permission from the municipality.
We hope that the above provides some clarity and understanding to affected residents as we continue to strive for transparency and accountability.
