2019-2020: 4 903 indigents approved households
2020-2021: 3 851 indigents approved households
2021-2022: 5 989 indigents approved households
2022-2023: 3 660 indigents approved households
2023-2024: (as of 1 July 2023 to February 2024) 1 872 indigent households approved
You may qualify for assistance if:
- You are a Mogale City resident
- Your household earns a combined gross income equivalent to or less than two times government pension grant
- You are part of a child-headed family struggling to pay your monthly municipal services
- You are employed but your income falls below two times government pension

- You must reside on the property for which indigent status is applied
- Whether you own, rent or occupy the property, you are eligible for support (provided that the municipal account is in your name)
- Only one property per household can benefit from the programme
What are the benefits?
- Enjoy 100% subsidised rates as per Municipal Property Rates Act.
- Receive 6 kilolitres free basic water and 50 kW/h free basic electricity.
- Refuse removal is 100% subsidised.
- If your sanitation services are part of the municipality’s waterborned system, they are also 100% subsidised.
- Approved applicants can have their municipality debt written off – a fresh start for a brighter future.
