Through a collaborative government partnership, Gauteng Department of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, West Rand District Municipality together with the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development and Mogale City Local Municipality are hereby inviting applications from Small, Medium and Micro Entrepreneurs (SMMEs) in the agricultural sector to use the municipality’s Agri-park for farming purposes.  The successful entrepreneur(s) will lease infrastructure such as hydroponic tunnels and open land for agricultural production in the Agri-Park and will be liable to pay rental fees determined by the municipality.

Who should apply?

This call is targeting Mogale City based SMMEs, entrepreneurs and farmers who are interested in leasing production infrastructure within the Agri-park to start an agri-business at a commercial scale. The farming enterprise should be able to farm profitably and contribute towards job creation, food and nutrition security.

Requirements:

  • SMME (entity) must be registered with the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission
  • Entity must have a valid tax clearance certificate
  • Must be a Mogale City resident
  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Youth, women and people with disability will be given preference
  • Should have Grade 10 as minimum qualification
  • An agricultural or business qualification will give an added advantage
  • Should have 3–5 years practical experience in crop production
  • Should demonstrate relevant experience and capability to run a successful enterprise or agribusiness
  • Should submit a comprehensive business proposal which includes a marketing plan
  • The enterprise should demonstrate the ability to create jobs to benefit local communities
  • The successful entrepreneur(s) will be responsible for payment of rental fees for the facilities including municipal services such as water, electricity, sanitation and waste

Disqualification criteria

  • Applications by individuals without registered companies
  • Applications by non-South African citizens or non-residents of Mogale City
  • Applicants who have benefited from Land Reform Programmes
  • Applications by government employees (public servants)
