Following the postponement of a 58-hour shutdown which previously scheduled for 23 June 2023, Rand Water has re-scheduled the shutdown for Tuesday, 11 July 2023 starting at 19h00pm and ending on Friday, 14 July 2023 at 05h00am.
This essential shutdown is required for Rand Water to conduct the following maintenance work:
- Replace Pumpset No. 20 non-return valve as well as Pumpset No. 21 delivery valve at Vereeniging Water Treatment Plant, affecting the Eikenhof system.
- Construct a tie in between A19 and B14 with a new 1400mm pipeline and installation of valves at Eikenhof Booster Pumping Station.
- Swinging over UPS supply from 400V Board to MCC Board at Lethabo Pumping Station which will affect Eikenhof Booster Pumping Station.
Pumping at Eikenhof Booster Pumping Station will therefore be reduced to 24% for 58 hours to cover for all the required work to be done.
During this shutdown, several areas in Mogale City will be affected and recovery time may take up to two weeks after supply and pumping has been fully restored from Rand Water site. Residents are urged to use water sparingly during this period. Moreover, to prevent a total collapse of the water distribution system, the municipality will undertake throttling of the reservoir outlet to maintain reasonable water levels to enable consistent pressure.
As a contingency measure, the municipality will make a minimum number of water tanker trucks available for the delivery of water to areas that will be affected. Water tanker requests can be made by contacting our MMC for Water and Energy Services, Mr. Peter Modise on 084 971 0283.
On behalf of Rand Water our bulk water supplier, Mogale City Water Services apologises in advance for the inconvenience during this planned shutdown.
