This year marks the 47th anniversary of the June 16 Soweto Uprising. Each year on this day, South Africans recognise and celebrate the role the youth of 1976 played in the liberation of the country.

Although the current youth generation is experiencing different challenges from the 1976 generation, including unemployment and poverty, these challenges require the same impetus demonstrated by the 1976 generation. Gauteng is a youthful province, with almost 30% (5,8 million) of the country’s youth population residing in the province. Approximately 2,2 million of this population is unemployed.

For this reason, Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG) will commemorate Youth Day by embarking on a recruitment drive in response to high unemployment levels in the province. In that regard, job opportunities will be created by advertising all available funded vacancies within GPG departments and their entities. This is in keeping up with our commitment to tackle unemployment in the province.
