On Thursday, 8 June 2023, City Power’s Orlando Power Station had a power outage that has affected pumping at Rand Water’s Eikenhof Pump Station. This incident has in turn affected Johannesburg Water and rand Water reservoirs storage levels, leaving many suburbs in Mogale City mostly Kagiso without water.
Initial investigations point to theft and vandalism, however City Power has confirmed that technicians have been dispatched to the site and are working on resolving the power failure.
Mogale City Water Services urges residents that still have water supply to use water sparingly during this time as Johannesburg Water currently does not have an expected time for completion.
The following Mogale areas will be affected by the power interruption:
- Muldersdrift which is fed by Johannesburg Water
- Kagiso and its extensions fed by Rand Water
- Munsieville fed by Rand Water
- Dan Pienaarville fed by Rand Water
- West Village also fed by Rand Water
Water tankers will be made available in affected areas as we await further updates from Johannesburg Water and Rand Water respectively. Wards Councilors affected by the above crisis are urged to direct their request for water tankers to the MMC for Infrastructure Development Services: Mr. Peter Modise on 084 971 0283.
It should also be noted that this incident also affects most water tanker abstraction or recharge points.
