With South Africa gearing up to host the 2023 Netball World Cup between July 26 – 6 August in Cape Town, the official trophy up for grabs has also landed on our shores for the first time in history, making its rounds across the province with a series of public tours.

The trophy arrived in South African last week Thursday, 25 May which not only marks the aforesaid history of the tournament being hosted for the first time on Africa soil but also Africa Day, an occasion to commemorate the much-needed African unity to take on various challenges faced by the continent.

Although Cape Town has been chosen as the preferred host the tournament, Mogale City Sports and Recreation has called on every citizen to throw their weight behind the trophy tour and The Proteas come 28 July. Not only will this offer the City of Human Origins to showcase its global heritage as the Cradle of all Humankind but the unique Tswana and other South African cultures that have descended on our city.

The coveted and prized trophy is set to make its way to the West Rand on 30 May arriving at the Roodepoort Police Station ahead of jam-packed activities in Mogale City starting around 4pm on 1 June 2023 and ending on 2 June. After an overnight stay at the Krugersdorp Police Station preceded by an open bus tour and public showcase, the trophy will move to the city’s Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site Visitor Centre, Maropeng for another day’s activities including a Morning Live broadcast and ceremonial handover to the City of Tshwane.
