Energy Services is aware that some parts of the city have been without power supply since the early hours of this morning as three mini substations are down at the following locations:
- Rangeview Extension 4 on Percy Stenard Street
- Kobie Krige Street opposite SARS in the CBD
- Munsieville at the corners of Sinqobile and Madiba Streets
Our technical team is currently fault finding. Once faults have been identified and replacement units and/or reparation material are sourced, the power restoration process will immediately commence thus no estimated time of restoration can be provided at this point.
It must also be mentioned that the municipality is unable to keep up with the high demand of mini substations due to continued theft and vandalism of our electricity infrastructure as well as higher stages of loadshedding. These factors not only leave a huge dent on our budget that rate payers regrettably carry the costs, but they also put strain on residents and the municipality’s capacity to deliver basic services. We therefore continue to appeal to residents to assist in protecting our infrastructure by reporting any suspicious activity around our substations to our Public Safety Division or the police.
We ask affected residents to please accept our sincere apologises for this great inconvenience.
