Executive Mayor Councillor Tyrone Gray alongside Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi, the MEC of Economic Development Ms. Tasneem Motara and a string of other dignitaries will on Thursday, 27 October 2022 host the official opening of the Chamdor Automotive Hub in Mogale City’s Kagiso township.

As part of Township Economic Revitalization (TER) Strategy the hub will work relying both on competences from small businesses and artisans already active in the townships, as well as from students graduating in the mechanic sector. The ultimate objective of the project is to deliver a local community of formalised small businesses through the acceleration of access to world class-leading automotive repair equipment and services. This TER intervention will therefore not only support skills development, increase township business competitiveness, assist in alleviating unemployment but have greater impact such as growing the local economy and GDP.

Briefly captured, the objectives of the hub are as follows:

  • To train and upskill automotive entrepreneurs/artisans
  • Creation of sustainable township entrepreneurs in the automotive sector
  • Creating job and business opportunities for the local community
  • To renew and redevelop the Chamdor Training Centre / Industrial site, and
  • Contribute to local economic development in Mogale City
