To address the overwhelming driving licence backlog in the province, the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport has launched a #RequestASlotGP campaign to enable driving licence cardholders to request and get allocated a booking slot on the online booking system, which has been difficult to secure over many months after the Covid-19 outbreak.
The #RequestASlotGP campaign will operate until 31 March 2022 and allow cardholders to, at their own convenience, request a slot. Applicants will then be allocated slots within 30 days upon receipt of the required full information by the department – a slot will not be assigned immediately.
Previously, a notice on slot availability was sent to those cardholders whose licences were soon to expire without them asking for it but now the onus is on cardholders to take the initiative and make the request. To request a slot online, cardholders can do so using following channels:
- online.natis.gov.za
- Send an email to requestaslot@gauteng.gov.za (link sends e-mail)
- Alternatively send an email to requestaslot@rtmc.co.za (link sends e-mail)
- Android-based app: RenewOnline_GP (app to be launched soon on Google Play Store)
The department together with Mogale City Licencing Centre encourages Gauteng cardholders to use the avenues that have been made available to renew their licenses and not wait for the 11th hour.
