On Sunday 6 April Mogale City Executive Mayor Francis Makgatho joined forces with the Scientology Volunteer Ministers Covid-19 Response Team to help mitigate the spread of the Covid-19 in parts of the city. After having his own office sanitized, he donned the Volunteer Minister yellow jacket fully intent to help others too.
Armed with Decon 7, the most sophisticated decontamination technology in the world and used as a military-grade anti-germ warfare solution, the Executive Mayor was trained to use the machine and joined the team to sanitize targeted parts of the Kagiso, the Munsieville centre for the aged and disabled, Munsieville Stadium and Thuto Lefa Secondary School. These chosen spaces were also informed by work that is already being done across the West Rand by West Rand District Municipality’s Disaster Management that forms part of the Covid-19 Command Council team where taxi ranks, shopping malls, sidewalks and other high traffic spaces have also to date been sanitized.
While millions of South Africans are under lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic and are constantly exposed to the most alarming news – with many rightly fearful of their wellbeing, Councillor Makgatho took a bold step and joined the Scientology Volunteer Ministers to assist. The Volunteer Ministers have so far assisted more than 34,692 people and sanitized over 150,000 square meters to the satisfaction of the people assisted during this crisis.
“The one thing we can do right now is to put the Decon technology at the service of the community,” said Sandile Hlayisi, spokesperson for the Scientology Volunteer Ministers. “Our aim is to help and having the city’s number one citizen, the Mayor on board brings great hope to Mogale City. A nugget of good news in the midst of all the gloom is more than appreciated by all,” Hlayisi concluded.
