Everyone has a role to play in preventing the spread of the disease and staying healthy
In December 2019, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported the outbreak of Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) which was first uncovered in Wuhan, China. The respiratory disease has since spread to other parts of the world and South Africa recorded its first COVID-19 case on 5 March 2020.
The Department of Health with the guidance of WHO has been monitoring the rapidly evolving developments surrounding the COVID-19 outbreak closely and encourages every citizen to play a role in preventing the spread of the disease and staying healthy.
It is important to know what symptoms to look for and how to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Please look out for mild to severe respiratory illness with symptoms of:
- Fever
- Sore throat
- Cough
- Shortness of breath
Mogale City encourages residents to seek medical advice if they develop symptoms and/or have been in close contact with a person known to have COVID-19 or if you have recently been in an area experiencing ongoing spread of COVID-19. Call ahead before you go to a doctor’s office and tell them about your recent travel and symptoms.
Symptoms may appear 2 – 14 days after exposure.
