In a bid to develop, sustain and promote sports and enhance the quality of life in local communities, Mogale City’s Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation (SACR) Section recently awarded local teams with sports apparels.
The ceremony was held at Central Library where ladies and men’s soccer, volleyball and netball teams from both urban and rural communities received sports kits and balls.
Recipients were winners and finalists that took part in the last Wards Games held at various sports fields in the city. “We decided to give the winning and losing teams sports apparels to enhance continuity within the teams. We also registered all the winning teams to their respective associations because this has created problems in the past as most teams did not use the money as requested,” Sports Assistant Manager Ofentse Lebethe said.
“We look forward to seeing more teams participate in the next Ward Games so that we continue to unearth and create avenues for young people to showcase their talents,” she concluded.
Mogale City Ward Games are an annual ward-based Mass Participation Programme aimed at encouraging members of the public to actively participate in sports with the objective of promoting good health, self-realisation, sports and community development as well as social cohesion.
