The Central Gauteng Lions in partnership with Cricket South Africa, Mogale City Local Municipality and Sunfoil are proud to host the 2019 Sunfoil U13 Night Series Township Tournament.
The tournament which kicks off on Saturday evening with an official opening ceremony at Krugersdorp High School, will see youngsters from disadvantaged backgrounds competing during this fun three-day contest. All matches will be played at Azaardville Sports Complex in Mogale City from Sunday, 17 March to Tuesday 19 March.
“Mogale City is proud to host the Sunfoil Township Tournament over the next three days and nights. The city also feels honoured to be part of this big programme that seeks to unearth young talent especially in areas where not many opportunities for competitive sport participation are available,” said Sports, Recreation, Arts, Culture and Heritage MMC Charmaine Ntlatlane-Nzwane.
“This programmes has played a major role in the discovery of the likes of Richard Seletswane, Thuthu Nkahle, Tshegofatso Mabe, Jeremiah Marshall, Luwayne Beaufort, Orifiliwe Molefe, Siya Radebe, Thami Radebe and Fufu Mkhize, whose talents are being nurtured,”she added.
Cricket South Africa is also proud that that Central Gauteng Cricket is creating opportunities for youngsters in cricket. “It remains an ongoing challenge to create opportunities for the all South Africans within cricket to grow and perform at optimum levels and the Sunfoil U13 Night Series Township Tournament speaks to that challenge” said Niels Momberg from Cricket South Africa Youth and Tertiary Manager.
10 teams – Kagiso/Swaneville, Central and South regions, Soweto, Sedibeng, Alexandra, Under 16 Combined girls team with three visiting teams from KwaZulu Natal, Eastern (Benoni) and Northern (Pretoria) regions – will compete for top honours. Benefits extend far beyond players but also gives opportunities to upcoming coaches, umpires and scorers through planned workshops that will be held during the tournament.
