Today, the Muslim community celebrates Eid-ul-Fitr. Eid-ul-Fitr is a very auspicious day as it marks the end of the Ramadan.
Ramadan is the 9th month on the Islamic calendar during which Muslims from around the world dry fast, without food or water from sunrise to sunset, while engaging in different acts of worship including charitable projects.
A special prayer is read on Eid morning and a charity called “Fitra” is paid by every fasting Muslim at the end of Ramadan i.e. before the day of Eid. This obligatory aid in charity is dispersed to ensure that even the poorest amongst us don’t go hungry and can also join the feast of the day of Eid.
It is also a day of celebration and joy whereby friends and family get together, eat together and pray together.
Mogale City Local Municipality wishes all Muslims a Mubarak (blessed) Eid.
