Valentine’s Day was a special day for Kagiso senior citizens when they received over 300 blankets from Mogale City Executive Mayor Patrick Lipudi.
The handover ceremony took place at Kagiso Care for the Aged Centre and was presided over by Ward 6 Councillor Doreen David.
The executive mayor made a promise to Kagiso senior citizens last year during Mandela Day celebrations that he will donate blankets to the elderly.
“I’m happy to celebrate Valentine’s Day with you. This is the day where we show love to our people and shower them with gifts. I made a promise last year and here am I fulfilling that promise,” Councillor Lipudi said.
“Giving these gifts to you is one way of saying thanks for the support and love that I have received from you ever since I took office as the executive mayor. I hope that we will continue working together moving forward,” he added.
The executive mayor announced that the aged, child-headed families and disabled people will be first in line when the city allocates houses.
“We took a conscious decision as municipal leaders that we are going to change the lives of our people for the better. One way of doing that is the provision of houses, with more emphasis on the aged, child-headed families and disabled people.
“We want to make sure that the aged have roofs over their heads. We have already started with that programme and we will continue to do so for as long as we are in office.”
