In an effort to make reading accessible to all and offer balanced public library services, the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation launched OverDrive.

OverDrive is a free service offered by Gauteng libraries, including Mogale City Local Municipality libraries, that allows registered users to borrow electronic books and audio books anytime and anywhere.

To access OverDrive through a computer/laptop, follow these easy steps:

Step 1: Visit https://gauteng.overdrive.com
Step 2: Open our library’s OverDrive collection, sign in using library membership card number
Step 3: Borrowed titles will appear on your Checkouts page on the library’s OverDrive Website
From here, you can:  
– Download titles to the Bookshelf in Adobe Reader or Adobe Digital Edition  
– Read titles from the bookshelf without even connecting to the OverDrive internet website

Access OverDrive through an app The OverDrive App:

The OverDrive app is available for Android™, Chrome book™, iOS® (iPhone/iPad/iPod touch), Kindle Fire tablets, Kobo tablets, NOOK tablets, Windows 8 and up, and Windows Phone and MAC PC’s

Step 1: Install the OverDrive App from your device’s app store or from app.OverDrive.com

Step 2: If prompted, sign into the OverDrive App with a free OverDrive account
Step 3: Find and save our library’s OverDrive collection in the OverDrive App
Step 4: Open our library’s OverDrive collection, sign in, and borrow or place a hold on a title. You will need a valid library membership card to complete this step
Step 5: Borrowed titles will appear on your Checkouts page on the library’s OverDrive Website. You can download titles to the Bookshelf in the OverDrive App and read titles right in your browser

To celebrate libraries, reading and books, Mogale City Local Municipality in partnership with the Library and Information Association of South Africa (LIASA) will be celebrating South African Library Week from 19-25 March 2018 with the theme “Libraries: heart of the Community”.
