Mogale City Executive Mayor Patrick Lipudi together with West Rand Muslim Association and Speaker of Council Noluthando Mangole recently donated over 2 000 sets of winter beanies and gloves to learners of Kid Maponya Primary School in Kagiso.
Motivated by their belief to help others and the less fortunate, the Muslim group based in Azaadville made the voluntary donation to help Kid Maponya Primary leaners to keep warm during the winter period.
Talking about the partnership between the West Rand Muslim Association and the school, the Executive Mayor said the school’s leadership is always keen to collaborate with any structure that has an interest in developing young people.
“When the request came in from the West Rand Muslim Association to make a little contribution, the leadership of the school did not hesitate. I want to applaud the leadership of the school for taking this responsibility of making sure that young people, as the future, are being looked after,” said the Executive Mayor.
West Rand Muslim Association CEO Abdullah Yusuf said his organisation feels that they have a responsibility to the wider community and to satisfy immediate needs of ordinary people trying to get through the cold winter in extremely difficult conditions.
“We are a poverty alleviation and other outreach projects within West Rand and Mogale City. The purpose of us coming here today is to spread warmth amongst various communities of Mogale City just before winter. This is an initiative we do every year just before winter commences to give beanies and gloves to learners. This has been an ongoing project for approximately ten years and we are hoping to extend this programme to two more schools in the West Rand”.
West Rand Muslim Association also plans to distribute blankets to indigents, wheelchairs and crutches to the disabled community.
