Councillor Michael Holenstein was elected as the new Executive Mayor of Mogale City Local Municipality at a special council meeting that sat yesterday, 7 December 2016.
The election of the new executive mayor follows the resignation of Councillor Lynn Pannall whose stint in the office which started on 18 August this year was cut short by ill health.
There were two candidates fielded by the parties represented in council, namely Councillor Patrick Naga Lipudi of the African National Congress and Councillor Michael Holenstein of the Democratic Alliance.
Councillor Naga Lipudi received 38 votes as against 39 votes for Michael Holenstein.
The new executive mayor who expressed that he is humbled and honoured, thanked Councillor Lynn Pannall for the progress she made in the past months and said he will use the work she had started as the foundation to enable Mogale City to reach frontiers it is yet to see.
The executive mayor retained the mayoral committee that was established by Councillor Lynn Pannall.
