Installing a prepaid meter is a great way to start saving on your electricity consumption.

Residents are therefore encouraged to apply for prepaid electricity meters.

The application process

Free standing houses (not in a complex, townhouse or flat)
• The applicant must preferably utilise less than 1000 kwh per month to be approved (if the consumer uses in excess of 1000 kwh, such an applicant will be required to submit a written confirmation letter that they are aware of the increase in tariff as per the approved tariff structure)
• An MCP3 application form must be filled out at the Electricity Division
• An approval or declination letter will be sent to the applicant
• An approval letter will be in the form of a quotation containing all cost implications

Requirements for application
• Six months electricity consumption history
• A copy of the owner’s ID

The applicant will receive correspondence from the Electricity Division within 6-8 weeks after application. The meter will be installed within 10 weeks after receiving payment.

Houses in complexes, villas and townhouses
• Complexes that require prepaid meters will be provided with a Mogale City Local Municipality approved meter box which must be refurbished and all cost involved will be the responsibility of the Body Corporate or Landlord of such a development
• The enclosure and locking system must be of a specific standard as prescribed by the municipality
